⭐️FILMING DAY ⭐️ What a 2 days we’ve had with our STARLIGHTER’s! This week we have been learning how to ACT for the screen, we have discussed various differences between Stage and Screen, performed the same scenes twice, one for the stage and then same scene again for the screen, watched themselves on the screen 🤦‍♀️, we’ve worked in small groups and followed the theme of the week SCHOOL DRAMAS, they’ve scripted their own scenes, worked hard applying those subtler acting techniques to their performance, learnt lines, brought in uniform and used their professional behaviour to get them through filming day! I am one happy lady tonight! Once again you don’t let myself or yourself down, you rise to your challenge, step outside your comfort zone and you perform - Happy Easter STARLIGHTER’s, you deserve a good one! ⭐️ EASTER HOLIDAY SCREEN WORKSHOP ⭐️ ⭐️ A two day workshop ⭐️ An introduction into screen acting ⭐️ Ending with a filmed performance ⭐️ With a copy to keep I am delighted to announce I have met up with the lovely Donna who provides Photography and Film tuition. You may have seen some of her recent work in Slaithwaite which looks incredible so I am extremely giddy to introduce her to STARLIGHTER! We are coming together to provide a 2 day introductory workshop which will introduce our students (and anyone else who would like to join us…so spread the word!) to the basics of ‘acting for the screen’, we will be developing new techniques, reading and rehearsing screen scripts, devising our own scenes, making props and building set before filming them! Then the lovely Donna will edit all our work and provide the students with a copy! This is a wonderful experience for all, once we have completed the workshop we will be looking to offer more workshops in the summer holidays and we are hoping to make this into a regular class for our current students! ⭐️ ⭐️ CONGRATULATIONS ORLA ⭐️ ⭐️ We would like to say a huge congratulations to this little star from our Wednesday Night Drama class! Orla has just turned 7 years old and won her section (Humerous Verse speaking) at the Mrs Sunderland Competition over the half term, not only this Orla won PERFORMER OF THE MORNING and was invited to perform on the big stage in the closing ceremony of the festival! There were only two Speech and Drama students performing last night, what a privilege for this young performer and an experience that will no doubt see her progress onto other things now! ⭐️MRS SUNDERLAND 2024 ⭐️ Yesterday we took some of our students to the Mrs Sunderland Performing Arts festival. The festival is one of the most prestigious in the country and people come from all over the uk to perform at the Huddersfield Town Hall, showcasing a variety of talents from Speech and Drama, Poetry, Muiscians, Vocalists, Choirs, Dance etc. Their talent is adjudicated by some of the most experienced specialists who have been educated and worked in the profession. As a child I also competed at the Mrs Sunderland competition that’s how long it’s been running 🤪 in fact well over a 100 years!! Our students prepared and delivered their pieces infront of their adjudicators but also the other performers and audience members who pay to watch the festival! It really is an incredible experience. Yesterday the adjudicator addressed the young people and explained how there’s adults in businesses paying other people to teach adults how to stand up and communicate and present in front of others to the same level that these amazing young people are doing now! It makes me emotional to write how proud I am of our young people! You are brave, gifted and are an absolute credit to your families especially in this current day and age and the every day challenges that young people are now facing. Yesterday each one of them got up, I was even nervous for them it’s such an intimate setting but I am delighted to announce they smashed it! Not only did they receive incredible feedback but also we took trophies home gaining First places and 2nd places! In fact………one of our students was selected as Performer of the Morning and recieved another trophy and now has been invited to the closing ceremony a week on Saturday where she will perform in the main concert hall alongside the countries BEST performances of the festival 🥲🥲 this really is outstanding young lady and we are sooo proud of you! Here at STARLIGHTER we nurture young people’s talent and it’s now paying off they certainly are growing with us and becoming confident young people who can communicate so positively and to a standard that I am delighted with! Thank you for being the best a teacher could have!

❤️VALENTINES SPECIAL SNOW UPDATE ❤️ Due to the snow today I’ve decided to cancel tomorrow mornings Valentines sensory specials for our Newborns and Babies! Number 1 - we don’t know whether this will turn to ice etc Number 2 - lots of mums will want to stay home with their little one and keep safe and warm (I don’t blame you) therefore classes will be quiet Number 3 - I have my little ones at home and I don’t want to constantly be looking out the window wondering whether or not I should get them dressed and risk it taking them to nursery etc which is at Bolster Moor (ICE and SNOW is so much worse there) Number 4 - my car got abandoned and my props that I was preparing for the sessions are in the car 🤣 Number 5 - I haven’t set the studio up ready for the sessions due to today’s weather! Soooooooooooooooo…..I am staying here with my little guys (Jessie is on a training day from school anyway and not stressing whether or not I can get there safely etc! ⭐️SNOW DAY 2024 ⭐️ What started out being ‘ONE OF THOSE BLOODY DAYS’ turned out to be one of the best days, even if I did collect my daughter from school with a bag on my head (mid treatment from hairdressers), picked up my son and abandoned the car, walked home and was soaked from top to bottom 🤣🤣👌🏻🤪, it turned out to be just brilliant! ⭐️FRIDAYS AT STARLIGHTER ⭐️ We had such a gorgeous day yesterday celebrating Chinese New Year early with our Babies, Ballet and Disco toddlers and Newborns in the afternoon! REMEMBER next week is our valentines special at 10:15am till 11:15am for all babies 0-14 months. This is already quite full so you MUST book to secure a space around the circle. There are no other classes this day! BUT we do return on Friday the 23rd of FEBRUARY! And we have a new Baby/toddler RAVE and story class! And yesterday he was invited to 10 Downing Street to celebrate his and the other Golcar legends service and success to their community club as Sporting Champions! HOWEVER………I am overwhelmed with excitement to announce that each and every one of my totally brilliant performers achieved a DISTINCTION! Wow, you should all be extremely proud of yourselves, I screamed my house down when I opened the envelope, this means the world to me! Thank you for working so hard and thank you for finding every last bit of strength to walk in that room and do what you needed to do,some of you so young, not everyone passes these exams so for us to achieve this on our first attempt I couldn’t not be prouder to call myself your STARLIGHTER teacher! These exams are so valuable, don’t get me started on my speech about communication and young people 🤣🤣, not only do they develop your child’s confidence, speech and language, acting skills they also count towards your UCAS points when applying for university!
